Pastor Robert Kayanja has launched a fierce attack on businessman and social commentator Frank Gashumba, declaring that God will respond to what he described as attacks on Christianity and religious leaders.
Kayanja made the remarks during a Wednesday night service at Miracle Centre Cathedral in Rubaga, Kampala, where he accused Gashumba of repeatedly attacking prominent individuals and institutions, including religious leaders and the Catholic Church.
Invoking the biblical story of Prophet Elijah, Kayanja declared that the God who answered by fire in biblical times remains powerful today. “If there is a God in heaven, he will answer by fire,” the pastor said.
He further accused Gashumba of ridiculing the blood of Jesus Christ and attacking God’s people. “Because you have ridiculed the blood of Jesus and you attacked God’s people, your own blood will kill you,” Kayanja warned, also referencing former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.

The confrontation follows Gashumba’s challenge to pastors claiming miraculous healing to demonstrate their abilities under verifiable conditions in hospitals. He initially offered Shs200 million before raising the proposed reward to Shs500 million.
Gashumba has questioned claims of miraculous healing, church financial transparency and demands for money from believers. However, he maintains that his criticism targets alleged religious exploitation rather than Christianity itself.
The dispute has also attracted their family members, with Gashumba’s daughter, Sheilah, defending her father’s position, while Kayanja’s son, Robert Kayanja Jr, defended Miracle Centre Cathedral’s humanitarian programmes and financial accountability.
The disagreement has since escalated into a broader public debate about miracles, religious accountability and the limits of criticism against faith leaders, with both sides maintaining their positions.
