Vincent Arnold Nsamba, the man arrested over the death of veteran musician Moses Matovu, has given his account of the confrontation that left the Afrigo Band legend fatally injured.
Nsamba said Matovu appeared “a bit drunk and weak” during the confrontation and became involved while trying to protect Rose Tusiime.
According to Nsamba, Matovu eventually lost his balance and fell near his vehicle. He said the musician appeared to hit his head, after which blood started coming from the injury.
“When he fell on the ground, maybe something hit him on the head because immediately, blood started gushing out of his head and I thought he had died,” Nsamba reportedly said.
He said he became frightened after seeing Matovu bleeding and fled to his home in Nansana, where he stayed until his arrest.
Police said Matovu and Tusiime were in Kibuli when they encountered Nsamba, who had previously been in a relationship with Tusiime, before a confrontation reportedly broke out.
Matovu, 77, was a founding member and longtime leader of Afrigo Band. He later died at Kibuli Hospital on September 24, 2026.
