Residents of Kajjansi Town Council are still in deep shock following a heartbreaking incident in which a young woman reportedly took her own life after losing her plot of land over a relatively small loan. The deceased has been identified as Sumayiya Nanyanzi.
According to information gathered from the community, Sumayiya had invested heavily in her future by purchasing a plot of land worth 9 million shillings in Kajjansi. The land was believed to be one of her biggest achievements after years of hard work abroad.
Reports indicate that she had spent about six years working in Jordan, where she endured the challenges faced by many migrant workers in search of a better life.
After returning to Uganda recently, Sumayiya reportedly stayed for a few months before making plans to travel back abroad again. In order to facilitate her travel, she is said to have borrowed 300,000 shillings from a local money lender.
Sources reveal that the loan was intended to top up her transport expenses as she prepared to return to Jordan for work. It appeared to be a small and manageable amount compared to the value of her property.
Sumayiya successfully traveled back to Jordan, but her stay was cut short after she was reportedly deported back to Uganda. This unexpected turn of events significantly affected her plans and financial stability.
Upon her return, she reportedly made efforts to settle her debt with the money lender. However, what she encountered left her devastated and in disbelief.

The money lender allegedly informed her that her plot of land had already been sold off in order to recover the loan amount. This shocking revelation is said to have deeply affected her emotionally.
Community members have expressed anger and confusion over how such a valuable property could be sold over a relatively small debt. Many described the situation as unfair and heartbreaking.
Friends and neighbors say Sumayiya appeared troubled after learning about the loss of her land. She reportedly became withdrawn and distressed in the hours leading up to her death.
On the night of the incident, at around 9:00 PM, Sumayiya is said to have handed her phone to a friend and made a concerning statement that she was going to do something unusual.
Moments later, she reportedly went into her father’s house and took her life in the sitting room. The tragic act has left her family and the entire community in deep sorrow.
Residents of Kajjansi have since been mourning her death, describing her as a hardworking and determined woman who had struggled to build a better life.
Many people have also raised concerns about the practices of some money lenders, calling for stricter regulations to protect borrowers from exploitation.
Local leaders are being urged to investigate the matter thoroughly, especially the circumstances under which the land was sold.

This incident has also sparked conversations about mental health and the silent struggles many people go through when facing financial and personal crises.
Experts warn that depression and emotional distress can become overwhelming, especially when individuals feel that they have lost everything they worked for.
Community members are now calling for more awareness and support systems to help people cope with such challenges before they escalate into tragedy.
At the same time, leaders are encouraging people facing difficulties to seek help from friends, family, or professionals instead of suffering in silence.
As investigations continue, Sumayiya’s death stands as a painful reminder of the need for compassion, fairness, and support within society.
Her story has left a lasting impact on Kajjansi, with many hoping that lessons will be learned to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
