St. Mary’s College Mayenze remains one of Uganda’s leading secondary schools, known for its dedication to quality education and the all-round development of learners. Alongside the newly introduced bursary scheme, the school has established several other programs aimed at supporting students academically, spiritually, and personally. These efforts ensure that every learner has an equal chance to succeed.
One of the school’s major initiatives is the bursary program, which supports bright but financially disadvantaged students. Under this program, the school offers a 50 percent reduction in school fees to students who show strong academic ability or exceptional sports talent. To qualify, a learner must have scored an aggregate between 4 and 14 in the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE). This initiative helps deserving students access quality secondary education regardless of their financial situation.
In addition, St. Mary’s College Mayenze supports parents and guardians through an early fee payment arrangement. Parents who pay school fees within the first two weeks of the term are exempted from paying 2 percent of the total fees. This measure encourages timely payments while helping families reduce costs and enabling the school to operate smoothly.
From the 2026 academic year, the school will introduce regular study tours to strengthen practical learning. Geography students will take part in fieldwork activities, while students of History and Political Education will visit the Parliament of Uganda. Although parents facilitate these visits, the school runs an annual program that exposes students to Parliament, helping them understand government processes and develop interest in national leadership.
The school also places strong emphasis on academic excellence. Students who score seven or more distinctions in their examinations are rewarded with UGX 50,000 or given partial school fee exemptions. This reward system motivates learners to work hard and strive for better academic performance.
St. Mary’s College Mayenze extends special support to students who experience the loss of a parent while studying at the school. In such cases, the school waives 50 percent of school fees if the father passes away and 25 percent if the mother passes away. This support helps families manage financial difficulties during times of grief.
Spiritual growth and moral development are also key pillars of the school. Students participate in daily lunch-hour prayers, rosary sessions, and Scripture Union activities, all sponsored by the school. Holy Mass is celebrated three times each term, and students are encouraged to pray before examinations to build discipline, faith, and good values.
The school prioritizes student welfare by ensuring proper nutrition. All students receive breakfast and lunch, recognizing that some may face food challenges at home. Boarding students are served balanced meals, with rice and chicken provided every Sunday. Other foods such as potatoes, matooke, and cassava supplement first-class posho to maintain a healthy diet.
To prepare students for national examinations, the school regularly invites examiners to guide and motivate candidates. This helps learners gain confidence and prepares them effectively for UCE and UACE examinations. As a result, the school continues to register strong academic performance.
Through financial assistance, practical learning opportunities, spiritual guidance, and good nutrition, St. Mary’s College Mayenze delivers a well-rounded education. The school remains committed to shaping disciplined, confident, and successful students who are ready to face the future.
