The Government of Uganda is reportedly planning to construct a house on land belonging to the late Afrigo Band leader Moses Matovu in recognition of his contribution to the country’s music industry.
The plan was announced by State Minister for Information and Technology Joyce Nabbosa Ssebuggwawo during a visit to Matovu’s family, where government officials paid tribute to the veteran musician.
Ssebuggwawo said the government would honour Matovu’s legacy by supporting the construction of a house on his land, recognising his decades of service to Uganda’s entertainment industry.Matovu, 77, was a founding member and longtime leader of Afrigo Band, one of Uganda’s most celebrated music groups.

He died on September 24, 2026, following injuries reportedly sustained during an early-morning confrontation in Kibuli.Police opened a murder investigation into his death, and a suspect was later arrested and charged in connection with the case.
