Uganda’s Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, Frank Tumwebaze, has broken his silence following widespread public concern about his noticeable weight loss. The minister addressed the issue after photos of him looking significantly slimmer surfaced online.
The images were taken during the National Resistance Movement (NRM) caucus retreat held in Kyankwanzi, specifically at the National Leadership Institute. The photos quickly circulated on social media, sparking mixed reactions from the public.
While some Ugandans expressed genuine concern and wished him a quick recovery, others mocked his new appearance, leading to speculation about his health condition.
In response, Tumwebaze came out strongly to dismiss claims that he was unwell. He made it clear that his weight loss was not due to illness but rather a personal and intentional decision.
He revealed that he was surprised by the number of messages he received from people assuming he was sick. According to him, these reactions reflect a broader misunderstanding about health and body weight.
Tumwebaze used the opportunity to highlight the ongoing fight against non-communicable diseases, warning that society still holds dangerous misconceptions about what it means to be healthy.
He pointed out that many people wrongly believe that being overweight is a sign of good health, while being slim is often associated with sickness. He described this mindset as misleading and harmful.

According to the minister, a lean body should not be mistaken for weakness. Instead, he argued that maintaining a healthy weight is a sign of discipline and good health practices.
He explained that weight loss should only be a cause for concern if it is unintentional, unexplained, or linked to underlying illness. In his case, however, the transformation was planned and achieved through lifestyle changes.
Tumwebaze noted that his new look is the result of deliberate efforts such as controlled dieting, increased physical activity, and overall healthier living habits.
He emphasized that such changes should be encouraged and celebrated, as they contribute to better long-term health outcomes.
The minister also addressed those who had mocked him, indirectly reminding the public that body shaming, whether directed at overweight or slim individuals, is not acceptable.
At the same time, he expressed appreciation for those who reached out with genuine concern, acknowledging that their messages came from a place of care.

Tumwebaze stressed that the fight against obesity and lifestyle diseases requires a shift in mindset, where people prioritize fitness and well-being over outdated perceptions.
He further stated that obesity should not be viewed as a sign of success or comfort, insisting that maintaining a healthy body is far more important.
In his message, he reassured the public that he is in good health and continues to carry out his duties effectively.
He also took a moment to express gratitude to God for the gift of life and good health, showing a personal and reflective side of his response.
The minister’s statement has since sparked fresh discussions online about health, body image, and the importance of intentional living.
Many supporters have praised him for speaking openly and using his experience to educate the public on important health issues.
His transformation and explanation now stand as a reminder that not all physical changes are negative, and that intentional lifestyle choices can lead to positive outcomes.
