Hon. James Nathan Nandala Mafabi, the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate, has pledged to bring balanced development to the Karamoja sub-region, promising a government that will protect land ownership and ensure that the region’s mineral wealth directly benefits its people. He made these remarks on Monday, October 20, 2025, while addressing supporters at Namalu Trading Centre in Nakapiripirit District during his 2026 campaign tour.
Nandala faulted the current government for neglecting Karamoja despite its rich mineral deposits, saying residents remain trapped in poverty while outsiders benefit. “Many minerals are taken from Karamoja, yet there’s little to show in terms of development. My government will make sure that Karamoja’s resources uplift its people. We shall stop exploitation and deliver justice to the region,” he said.
He also vowed to end land grabbing in the mineral-rich area, noting that several Karamojong families have been displaced without any form of compensation. “People have lost their land due to mineral discoveries, yet none has been compensated. This must come to an end. Under my leadership, the land rights of all Ugandans will be respected and protected,” Nandala stressed.
Nandala, the first Umusaba in Uganda’s history to be cleared to contest for the presidency, was officially nominated by the Electoral Commission during the national nomination exercise held on September 23–24 at Lweza–Lubowa in Wakiso District. Speaking to supporters, he emphasized that Uganda’s progress must be built on integrity, hard work, and self-reliance instead of dependence on foreign loans. “When we fight corruption, protect people’s livelihoods, and create meaningful opportunities, we restore national pride and prosperity for all,” he added.
The FDC candidate also committed to promoting inclusive economic growth and eradicating corruption, which he said has hindered Uganda’s potential. Since launching his campaign on September 29, 2025, Nandala has steadily moved across the country, engaging communities despite occasional disruptions by security forces blocking access to some venues. His message of fairness, accountability, and transformation continues to attract strong support from voters nationwide.
