Opposition politician Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda has sharply criticized Chief of Defence Forces Muhoozi Kainerugaba, accusing him of acting as if Uganda is a personal family possession and warning that political power is temporary.
Ssemujju made the remarks while commenting on controversies surrounding attempts to have Muhoozi summoned in court in legal matters linked to opposition leader Kizza Besigye. He insisted that no public official should be above the law, regardless of rank or family connections.
He argued that Uganda is governed by institutions, not individuals, pointing to past constitutional court proceedings where senior military officers, including a former army chief, complied with court orders and testified when required.
Ssemujju warned that shielding powerful figures from accountability weakens democracy and erodes public trust. He concluded that leadership is temporary and every official must ultimately answer to the law, stressing that Uganda “belongs to its people, not individuals or families.”
