Thousands of supporters of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) have rallied in Mbarara City and Bushenyi District to endorse Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba for a possible presidential bid in 2031.
The gatherings saw supporters sign endorsement books as part of a nationwide mobilisation campaign targeting 20 million signatures for Muhoozi, who chairs the PLU and serves as Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces.
Supporters expressed confidence in Muhoozi’s political future, describing the turnouts as evidence of growing support for his potential presidential ambitions.
PLU leaders, including Hon. Michael Mawanda, praised the participation in western Uganda and encouraged supporters to continue backing the mobilisation drive.

Organisers also planned activities in Ntungamo on October 17, including free medical care and business-related services, as part of efforts to expand the organisation’s grassroots presence.
Supporters have emphasised patriotism, unity and youth participation, arguing that the campaign gives Ugandans an opportunity to express their political preferences ahead of the next presidential election.
However, Muhoozi’s potential political ambitions have sparked debate over the involvement of an active military officer in politics, given his position as the country’s Chief of Defence Forces.
Although the rallies have intensified discussions about the 2031 presidential race, the large crowds and endorsements do not guarantee electoral victory. The level of support Muhoozi could command at the ballot box remains to be seen.
