NRM Eastern Region Vice Chairperson, Mr. Echodu Calvin, recently held a unity meeting in Mt. Elgon, bringing together NRM aspirants, winners, and even those who did not succeed in the primaries from across Bugisu Sub-region. The meeting aimed to rally support for President Museveni and provide a platform for leaders to discuss pressing issues in their communities.
During the meeting, Hon. Biara Emmanuel Wepukhulu, the NRM flag bearer for Bulambuli County, spoke about the urgent challenges facing Bugisu. He highlighted the persistent problem of cattle raiding, which threatens livelihoods and security, and called for fair treatment and compensation for affected families, pointing out the disparities compared to regions like Teso.
Education and regional development were also central to his speech. Hon. Biara advocated for a public university in Bugisu to create more opportunities for youth and urged the creation of a ministerial position for the sub-region to ensure increased government attention and resources.
He also raised concerns about natural disasters, including mudslides and landslides, stressing the need for proactive government measures to protect communities during heavy rains.
Mr. Echodu Calvin assured attendees that he would help facilitate a meeting between Bugisu leaders and President Museveni, a promise welcomed as a step toward addressing these critical issues.
The unity meeting demonstrated NRM’s spirit of solidarity, bringing together aspirants, winners, and non-winners to discuss development. Hon. Biara’s clear presentation of Bugisu’s challenges reflected his leadership and commitment to the people of the sub-region.
By voicing these key concerns, Hon. Biara continues to champion security, education, disaster preparedness, and development for Bugisu residents.
