The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), together with Moroto District leaders, is intensifying efforts to prepare schools and communities for the Baseline Education Census 2025. Officials are calling for full participation to ensure that the data collected is accurate and complete.
On Friday, September 19th, 2025, UBOS Principal Public Relations Officer, Didacus Okoth, and Moroto District Deputy RDC, Mark Aol Musooka, spoke to the media at the District Local Government offices. Their goal was to strengthen community awareness and encourage cooperation ahead of the census, which is scheduled to start on Monday, September 23rd, 2025.
Deputy RDC Musooka appealed to all schools in Moroto and the wider Karamoja region to work closely with census field teams. “This census is crucial for understanding our educational landscape and ensuring resources are distributed effectively,” he said. Musooka urged schools to provide all necessary information to help make the exercise a success.
Didacus Okoth provided details about the census, emphasizing that teachers, parents, and students should prepare ahead of time. He stressed that only students physically present at school during the census will be counted, highlighting the importance of school attendance.
Okoth also explained that the census will gather information on teachers, non-teaching staff, classrooms, sanitation facilities, and learning materials such as textbooks. The aim is to build a complete picture of Uganda’s education system and its infrastructure.
The Baseline Education Census 2025, launched in April by UBOS in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Sports, will cover all education levels—from nursery to university—and include both public and private institutions. This effort will provide reliable, evidence-based data to guide policy and improve educational planning across the country.
In regions like Karamoja, where schools face unique challenges, the census is expected to help direct resources where they are most needed. Accurate data will allow policymakers to implement targeted interventions, improving learning conditions and supporting sustainable development in Uganda’s education sector.
