A fresh political storm is unfolding in Uganda following a series of strongly worded social media posts by Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba directed at Dr Chris Baryomunsi after his reported appointment as Minister of Health in President Yoweri Museveni’s new cabinet lineup.
The remarks, shared on X (formerly Twitter), immediately triggered widespread discussion online, with many Ugandans expressing surprise at the intensity of the language used by the senior military officer toward a fellow government official.
Gen Muhoozi’s comments appeared to signal that tensions between him and Baryomunsi are far from over despite the latest cabinet reshuffle announced by President Museveni for the 2026–2031 term.
In one of the posts that quickly went viral, Muhoozi reportedly insisted that Baryomunsi must apologise for past comments directed at him or face serious consequences.

The General used language that many social media users described as unusually harsh, warning that failure to apologise would lead to Baryomunsi being “destroyed completely.”
The statement has since sparked intense public debate, with political observers questioning what impact such public disagreements could have on relationships within government circles.
The latest dispute appears to stem from earlier online exchanges in which Baryomunsi allegedly referred to Muhoozi as suffering from “Peter Pan syndrome,” a phrase used to describe adults who appear unwilling to mature.
That earlier comment generated significant reactions online and reportedly angered Gen Muhoozi, who viewed it as both disrespectful and personally insulting.
Muhoozi has also previously accused Baryomunsi of making offensive remarks about his upbringing and family, particularly his mother, which he said crossed personal boundaries.
According to political commentators, the current confrontation reflects deeper tensions that have been simmering beneath the surface for several months.

Many Ugandans were therefore surprised when President Museveni retained Baryomunsi in cabinet and reportedly assigned him the Health Ministry portfolio despite the public fallout.
For some observers, the appointment demonstrated that cabinet decisions ultimately remain the sole authority of the President regardless of political disagreements among senior officials.
However, Muhoozi’s latest remarks suggest that he was dissatisfied with the decision and may have expected a different political outcome following the earlier exchanges.
In one of his posts, Muhoozi hinted that some individuals believe ministerial appointments make them untouchable, warning that political office does not shield anyone from consequences.
Those remarks were widely interpreted as direct references to Baryomunsi and added even more fuel to the growing public discussion.
The situation has since become one of the most talked-about political topics on Ugandan social media, with hashtags and screenshots of the posts circulating widely online.
Supporters of Muhoozi defended his reaction, arguing that public figures should be held accountable for personal attacks and disrespectful comments made against fellow leaders.
Others, however, criticised the tone of the statements, arguing that leaders in senior positions should handle disagreements through official channels rather than public online confrontations.
Political analysts say the growing use of social media as a battleground among influential figures is reshaping political communication in Uganda in unprecedented ways.

They note that while such exchanges attract public attention and online engagement, they also risk deepening divisions and shifting focus away from governance and policy matters.
The controversy also raises questions about the relationship between political power, military influence, and public discourse within the ruling establishment.
At the time of reporting, Dr Chris Baryomunsi had not publicly responded in detail to the latest comments made by Gen Muhoozi, leaving many waiting to see whether he will address the matter directly.
As the political storm continues to grow, many observers are closely watching to see whether the disagreement will escalate further or eventually cool down behind closed doors.
