A dark cloud of grief has fallen over several Ugandan families following a horrific road accident that claimed the lives of three people and left many others injured.
The tragedy, which happened in the early hours of the day, has once again reminded the country of the growing dangers on its highways, where lives can change in just a few seconds due to a single moment on the road.
The fatal crash occurred in Nakaseke District along the busy Luwero–Butalangu Road, a route frequently used by taxis, trucks, and private cars connecting various towns and trading centers.
The accident happened at around 8:00am on February 3, 2026, a time when many people are traveling for work, school, and business, making the loss even more painful for the affected families.
According to the official police report, the collision involved a white Toyota Hiace taxi with registration number UA746CH and a white Tata vehicle bearing registration number UBJ 081B. Both vehicles were said to be moving in opposite directions when they suddenly crashed into each other head-on in a violent and destructive impact that left both vehicles badly damaged.
The Toyota Hiace taxi was reportedly traveling from Ngoma heading toward Luwero, passing through Kasana in Kiwoko Town Council.
It was carrying several passengers who were going about their daily routines, unaware that their journey would end in tragedy along the road they trusted for transport.

The Tata vehicle, on the other hand, was coming from Kiwoko and heading toward Butalangu. As it approached the same stretch of road in Kasana, it collided directly with the taxi, creating a loud bang that drew the attention of nearby residents and other motorists who rushed to the scene in shock.
Witnesses described the scene as terrifying, with twisted metal, shattered glass, and injured passengers crying out for help. Some good Samaritans tried to assist the victims before emergency services arrived, showing the human spirit of compassion even in the middle of tragedy.
Sadly, three passengers lost their lives on the spot or shortly after the crash due to the severe injuries they sustained. Their deaths have brought unbearable pain to their families, who had no idea that morning would be the last time they would see their loved ones alive.
One of the deceased was Joy Kusigwire, a 22-year-old passenger in the Toyota Hiace taxi and a resident of Kyabiguuru. At such a young age, her life was cut short in a heartbreaking way, leaving behind dreams that will never be fulfilled.
Another victim was Nuwenyine Nathan, also a passenger in the same taxi and a resident of Kyabiguuru. His passing has deeply shaken those who knew him, as friends and relatives struggle to accept that he is gone so suddenly.
The third person who died was Kingogo Martin, aged 43, who had been traveling in the Tata vehicle. His death represents not just a statistic but a life that mattered — a father, relative, or friend whose absence will be felt deeply in his community.
Police confirmed that the bodies of the deceased were taken to Nakaseke Hospital mortuary for postmortem examinations. These procedures are part of standard investigations aimed at understanding the exact causes of death and documenting the tragedy officially.
Several other passengers survived but suffered injuries of varying degrees, turning the crash into a scene of both loss and suffering. The cries of the injured and the chaos at the scene showed just how devastating the impact had been.
In the Toyota Hiace taxi alone, there were nine men, two women, and two young girls, whose full identities had not yet been recorded at the time police released their report. The number of people involved highlights how crowded public vehicles can be, increasing the risk when accidents happen.

All injured victims were quickly rushed to Kiwoko Hospital, where medical teams worked urgently to stabilize them and provide treatment. Families gathered anxiously at the hospital, hoping for positive news about their loved ones’ recovery.
Traffic police officers from the Nakaseke District responded to the accident scene soon after receiving reports of the crash. They secured the area, directed traffic, and began documenting evidence to help piece together what exactly went wrong.
Investigators carefully examined the damaged vehicles, skid marks, and road conditions as part of efforts to determine the cause of the collision. They are also working to identify and question the drivers involved, whose identities were not immediately confirmed.
Road accidents like this continue to be a major problem in Uganda, where speeding, reckless overtaking, and failure to follow traffic rules often lead to deadly consequences. Each new accident adds to the painful statistics and leaves families shattered.
Police have urged drivers using Luwero–Butalangu Road and other highways to be extremely cautious, respect speed limits, and avoid risky behavior behind the wheel. They stressed that road safety is a shared responsibility between drivers, passengers, and authorities.
The tragedy has left communities mourning and reflecting on how fragile life can be. Funerals will be held, tears will be shed, and families will try to find strength, but the pain of losing loved ones in such a sudden and violent way will not easily fade.
As investigations continue, many hope this heartbreaking incident will serve as a serious warning to all road users. Every journey should begin and end safely, and only responsible driving can prevent more families from receiving the devastating news that their loved ones will never return home.
