Gen. Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has once again become the focus of succession debate after a Nigerian prophet claimed that President Yoweri Museveni is preparing him to take over leadership of Uganda, while also alleging a possible assassination threat against him.
The claims were made by Primate Elijah Ayodele, who suggested that a political transition is being shaped that could eventually place Muhoozi in the presidency. However, he provided no evidence or names to support the alleged plot.
The prophecy has reignited long-standing discussions about Uganda’s succession politics, commonly referred to as the “Muhoozi Project,” a term linked to earlier allegations that Muhoozi is being positioned for future leadership.
Despite repeated denials over the years from government officials and Muhoozi himself, speculation continues due to his rising influence within both the military and political spheres.
Muhoozi has previously stated that he will not contest the 2026 presidential election, but debate over his long-term political future remains active across Uganda’s political landscape.
