National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has sharply criticised American actor Tyrese Gibson after he praised Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba and invited him to Los Angeles.
Gibson made the remarks after meeting Muhoozi during his visit to Uganda, describing him as an “accomplished servant-leader” and praising his reported support for vulnerable communities, children with cancer and young entrepreneurs.
The Hollywood actor said his invitation to Muhoozi was genuine and promised to use his connections to help him meet American music star Beyoncé.Gibson also said his discussions with Ugandan officials explored opportunities in tourism, entertainment, investment, hotels, natural resources and job creation.

However, Bobi Wine strongly condemned the actor’s praise, accusing him of overlooking allegations of human rights abuses linked to Uganda’s leadership.“Why invoke Jesus’ name and pretend to be God-fearing while standing comfortably beside a tyrant who tortures and kills people for fun? This hypocrisy is sickening,” Bobi Wine said.
He urged Gibson to learn more about Uganda’s political history and situation before publicly endorsing government figures, arguing that international celebrities should not ignore human rights concerns when pursuing business or investment opportunities.
The clash has sparked debate online, with supporters of Bobi Wine and Gibson offering sharply different views on the actor’s engagement with Uganda’s political leadership.
