The legal clash between Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba and Dr. Kizza Besigye has escalated after Muhoozi asked the High Court to dismiss Besigye’s application with costs, describing it as baseless and unsupported by evidence.
Besigye had moved to court claiming that public comments allegedly made by Muhoozi on social media amounted to threats and risked prejudicing his ongoing criminal proceedings.
He argues that such statements undermine his right to a fair and impartial trial. In response, Muhoozi and co-respondents insist the claims are speculative and unproven, urging Justice Emmanuel Baguma to strike out the case entirely.
Court filings, including an affidavit from security officials, dismiss allegations of intimidation, unlawful detention, and rights violations as unsubstantiated. The dispute, which also touches on Besigye’s controversial arrest and transfer from Kenya in 2024, is now before the court for determination on whether it will proceed or be dismissed with costs—a decision expected to draw wide public attention.
