Controversial businessman and political commentator Frank Gashumba is set to face scrutiny from the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) leadership after remarks resurfaced in which he allegedly referenced the idea of forming an M23-style movement in Uganda.
The video, which has circulated widely online, sparked political debate and concern due to the sensitivity surrounding rebel activity in the Great Lakes region.
Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, speaking on X, confirmed that Gashumba will be summoned before the PLU Central Committee to explain his comments, stressing the need for discipline within the movement.
He noted that the matter would be formally addressed, adding a pointed remark that further fueled online reactions.
Gashumba has since argued that the video is old and being misinterpreted, insisting it is unrelated to current political tensions or recent events involving his associate Dr. Lawrence Muganga.
Muganga, whose ministerial appointment was rejected by Parliament’s Appointments Committee over citizenship concerns, has also accused officials of bias—an issue that intensified online debate after his rejection.
Despite Gashumba’s clarification, the resurfaced clip continues to attract criticism, with analysts warning against rhetoric that could be misread in a volatile regional security context.
The PLU leadership is now expected to convene and determine the next course of action as pressure builds around the controversy.
