Former Kira Municipality MP Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda has sharply responded to tensions with Chief of Defence Forces Muhoozi Kainerugaba, insisting that no leader should be feared as though they are beyond human limits. His remarks follow threats allegedly issued by Muhoozi after Ssemujju criticised the military chief on social media, a confrontation that has sparked wider political debate across the country.
Ssemujju maintained that authority, no matter how strong, does not place anyone above accountability or above the natural end that every human being must face.He warned Ugandans against normalising fear in politics, arguing that intimidation only weakens society and shields leaders from scrutiny that is necessary in a democracy.
The former legislator’s comments come amid rising concern over the treatment of political figures, including former Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, whose recent detention has drawn criticism from opposition voices and human rights observers.Ssemujju said that history shows even the most powerful figures eventually lose their influence, stressing that death and time remain the ultimate equalisers.
He insisted that speaking out should never be treated as a crime, adding that citizens have a duty to question those who exercise public power in any form.Ssemujju concluded by reaffirming that threats will not silence him, saying he is prepared to face consequences but will not surrender to fear or intimidation.
