A wave of sadness has once again swept across Uganda following another tragic road accident that claimed lives and left others injured.
The incident, which happened in the early hours of Sunday morning, has added to the growing number of fatal crashes along major highways.
The accident involved a bus belonging to Real Bus Company, a well-known transport operator in the country. The vehicle was being driven by David Mukembo, who unfortunately lost his life in the crash.
According to reports, the accident occurred at around 4:00 am in Kiwumpa village, located in Luwero town. This area lies along the busy Kampala–Gulu highway, a route that has become notorious for frequent and sometimes deadly accidents.
Eyewitness accounts and police reports indicate that the bus lost control before ramming into the rear of an Isuzu truck. The impact of the collision was severe, leading to the immediate death of the driver and his conductor, whose identity had not yet been confirmed at the time of reporting.
Two male passengers on the bus sustained injuries during the crash. They were quickly rushed to Luwero General Hospital, where they received medical attention. Fortunately, other passengers from both the bus and the truck escaped without injuries.
The tragic loss of life has deeply affected families, friends, and colleagues of the deceased. For many, it is yet another painful reminder of how dangerous road travel can be, especially during early morning hours.

Police in the Savannah region responded promptly to the scene. The spokesperson, Sam Twiineamazima, confirmed the details of the accident and stated that investigations had begun to determine the exact cause.
The bodies of the driver and the conductor were taken to Luwero General Hospital mortuary. A postmortem examination is expected to be conducted as part of the ongoing investigation.
Meanwhile, the damaged vehicles were towed to Luwero Central Police Station. Authorities are carefully examining the wreckage to gather more evidence about what might have led to the crash.
This incident is not an isolated case. The Kampala–Gulu highway, particularly the stretch between Luwero and Nakasongola, has recorded multiple accidents in recent weeks.
Just days before this tragedy, another accident occurred along the same road involving students from St Peter’s Naalya Secondary School. Several students were injured when their vehicle collided with a fuel tanker while attempting to overtake.
Such repeated incidents have raised serious concerns among road users and authorities. Many are now calling for urgent measures to improve safety along this busy highway.
Traffic police have pointed out several common causes of these accidents. These include reckless driving, over-speeding, drink-driving, and the narrow nature of certain sections of the road.

Drivers are often urged to exercise caution, especially when overtaking or driving at night and early morning hours. Poor visibility and fatigue can also increase the risk of accidents during these times.
Community members living along the highway have also expressed their fears. They say that accidents have become too frequent, and stronger enforcement of traffic laws is needed.
Transport companies are being reminded of their responsibility to ensure that their drivers are well-rested and follow safety guidelines. Mechanical checks on vehicles are also important to prevent unexpected failures.
The government and road safety agencies may need to consider long-term solutions. These could include widening the road, installing better signage, and increasing patrol presence along accident-prone areas.
For now, families of the victims are left mourning their loved ones. The pain of losing someone so suddenly is difficult to bear, especially in such tragic circumstances.
As investigations continue, many hope that the findings will help prevent future accidents. Every life lost on the road is a reminder that more must be done to improve safety.
In the end, this heartbreaking event serves as a warning to all road users. Careful driving, patience, and respect for traffic rules can help save lives and prevent such tragedies from happening again.
