An American citizen, Andrew Wilson, has made explosive allegations in court while testifying in the case involving opposition politician Dr Kizza Besigye and his co-accused.
Wilson, a US citizen from Arizona, told court that he was allegedly contacted through Facebook by Joel Wakayima, who he claimed sought training in the use of bombs, aircraft, drones and other military skills.
The witness said the discussions later involved opposition figures, including Salaam Musumba, Erias Lukwago and a person identified as Gen Otto. He also claimed that he eventually met Besigye and discussed the alleged plans.
Wilson further testified that he secretly recorded some conversations using a camera hidden inside a mobile power bank. He alleged that the recordings captured discussions about acquiring weapons and plans to overthrow the Ugandan government.
He also claimed that Wakayima proposed a grenade attack at Café Javas on Acacia Avenue in Kampala, alleging that government officials frequented the location.
The prosecution is relying on Wilson’s testimony as part of its case, while the accused have denied the allegations and maintained their innocence.
The defence is expected to challenge Wilson’s evidence and credibility as the trial continues.
