Hours after the National Unity Platform (NUP) Vetting Committee released the official list of parliamentary flagbearers, Hon. Derrick Nyeko, who missed out on the nomination, spoke to his supporters.
In a heartfelt statement, Nyeko highlighted the importance of resilience and unity in the face of setbacks. “To my team, supporters, and family. As I shared before, we must accept the outcome, whatever it may be. Our strength has never been only in victory, but in the spirit of resilience, loyalty, and commitment to the cause we believe in,” he said.
Nyeko emphasized that his political journey has never been about personal ambition. Instead, he underlined values such as integrity, justice, and service to the people as the foundation of his work.
“These values remain unshaken, and it is on them that we shall continue to build. Even when the path seems uncertain, we must stand united. The enemy will rejoice if they see division among us, but we shall not give them that satisfaction. Our bond is stronger than any setback,” Nyeko added.
He urged his supporters to stay hopeful despite disappointment, encouraging them to remain committed to the ideals that motivated their collective political journey.
Nyeko’s message comes amid fierce competition within NUP, where several candidates vied for parliamentary flags, leaving many supporters frustrated by the vetting results.
Despite the setback, Nyeko remains optimistic about the future. He views personal disappointments as part of a larger journey toward meaningful political change and effective service to the people.
He also reminded his supporters that political engagement goes beyond winning elections; it is about upholding principles and working for the greater good.
Nyeko’s acceptance of defeat demonstrates maturity and unity within NUP. By focusing on shared values rather than personal loss, he sets an example for other politicians facing similar challenges.
As the political season progresses, supporters of Nyeko and other aspirants will be watching closely. While some may question the vetting outcomes, Nyeko’s response highlights the importance of resilience, unity, and commitment to a cause greater than oneself.
