The Deputy Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Lt Gen Sam Okiding, presided over the graduation of 973 patriots from Kumi University, SOGAVI Institute of Technology, and Kumi School of Nursing on October 13, 2025.
The colorful ceremony, hosted at Kumi University, celebrated the successful completion of a one-week patriotism training program organized by the National Secretariat for Patriotism Corps (NSPC) in partnership with local leaders and security officials. The event drew a large audience, including Hon. Okasayi Sidronious Peter, Minister of State for Energy and Mineral Development, the District Chairperson, area leaders, the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), university officials, directors of participating institutions, and thousands of community members. Members of the District Security Committee (DSC) were also present.
Deputy RDC Kyomya James, who coordinated the training, welcomed Lt Gen Okiding and praised the patriots for their dedication. He thanked Kumi University for hosting the program and commended participating institutions for promoting the values of patriotism. Kyomya also delivered a lecture on NRM ideology, urging the graduates to act as ambassadors, spreading positive information about the government’s achievements.
Patriot Nakirya Marklyn was recognized for outstanding leadership as parade commander and was recommended for recruitment into the national instructors’ team. Kyomya also appealed to Lt Gen Okiding to consider recruiting dedicated patriots into the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), citing their commitment and discipline.
In response, Lt Gen Okiding commended the patriots for their efforts and assured that motivated graduates would be given opportunities to join the UPDF. Kyomya further encouraged the patriots and the wider community to support President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in the upcoming 2026 elections to consolidate the achievements made under his leadership.
