Residents of Kinawataka in Nakawa Division woke up to news of a major late-night police operation aimed at restoring order and improving community safety. The operation was carried out on the night of 17 December 2025 at around 11:00 p.m. by officers from Jinja Road Police Station, working closely with local defence units. The targeted operation focused on known crime-prone areas within the neighborhood.
According to police, the operation took place in Kago and Katogo zones of Kinawataka, located in Mbuya I Parish, Kampala. These areas have been identified by security agencies as crime black spots, often linked to illegal activities such as drug abuse, theft, and robbery. The late-night timing was deliberate, as most criminal activities are believed to occur under the cover of darkness.
During the operation, security personnel arrested nine male suspects from different locations within the targeted zones. Police say the individuals were found loitering in circumstances that raised suspicion and matched patterns associated with criminal behavior in the area. The arrests were part of a broader effort to disrupt criminal networks and discourage repeat offenses.
All nine suspects were charged with public nuisance, an offense commonly used to curb activities that threaten public order and safety. They are currently being held at Jinja Road Police Station as they await prosecution. Police have assured the public that due process will be followed in handling the suspects.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police described the operation as successful, noting that it sent a strong warning to criminals operating in the area. Officers involved emphasized that such targeted raids are essential in preventing crime before it occurs, rather than responding after damage has already been done.
Police authorities reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace and security in Kampala, especially in areas that have repeatedly reported criminal activity. They stated that similar disruptive operations will continue to be conducted across the city to protect residents and their property.
ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, urged members of the public to cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities. He emphasized that community involvement is key to sustaining safety and reducing crime.
The police have also encouraged residents to remain vigilant and law-abiding, assuring them that security forces are working tirelessly to ensure safer neighborhoods. The Kinawataka operation, police say, is part of a wider strategy to make Kampala a more secure city for all.
