A 38-year-old woman and her one-and-a-half-year-old daughter have died following an illegal electricity connection in Kyankwanzi District.
The victims, Zawedde Edith and her daughter Abigail Muwanguzi Nalubega, were found dead on the night of Saturday, October 25, 2025, at their home in Kikonda B Village, Nsambya Sub-County.
Police Spokesperson ACP Kituuma Rusooke said officers and homicide detectives responded promptly and registered the case after visiting the scene. The bodies of the mother and daughter were discovered lying on the floor beside a bed, with an electric flat iron nearby.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that an illegal power connection in the house caused the tragedy,” ACP Rusooke stated. “We urge the public to always hire certified electricians for any electrical installations. Illegally tapping into the power grid, which can result in fatal accidents, is a serious offense punishable by law.”
Authorities continue to investigate the incident as a warning to residents about the dangers of unsafe electrical practices.
