Christopher Okello Onyum has filed an appeal challenging both his conviction and death sentence in the shocking murder of four nursery school children in Ggaba.
The convicted man, who was sentenced on four counts of murder by the High Court, argues that the judgment should be reviewed by the Court of Appeal in Kampala after what he claims were serious issues in the trial process.
In documents reportedly prepared while in custody, Okello insists he was not in a normal mental state at the time of the killings, suggesting his actions may have been influenced by forces beyond his control.
This claim is expected to become a central issue during the appeal hearing.
He is now seeking a review of the evidence and legal findings that led to his conviction and death sentence, which was delivered by Justice Alice Komuhangi Khaukha.
The appeal will be handled by the Court of Appeal in Kampala, which may uphold, alter, or overturn the ruling.
The case, which deeply shocked the nation due to the victims’ young age, continues to draw intense public attention as the legal battle moves to a higher court.
