The quiet community of Seeta in Mukono District was thrown into shock following the tragic death of Pamela Tumwebaze, the Director of Students’ Affairs at Uganda Christian University (UCU).
New details released by police have begun to paint a clearer picture of what may have happened on the night she lost her life, leaving colleagues, students, and the wider public deeply disturbed.
According to police reports, the incident occurred in the early hours of February 11, 2026, at around 2:00 a.m. Tumwebaze was at her residence in Ganvu West Cell, Seeta Ward, Goma Division, when she was allegedly attacked and strangled by an unknown assailant.
The attack happened while the household was asleep, adding to the horror of the crime.
After the attack, efforts were made to save her life. She was rushed to Mukono Namirembe Hospital in a desperate attempt to get medical help.
Sadly, doctors pronounced her dead on arrival, confirming the worst fears of her family and those who knew her.
At the time of the incident, Tumwebaze was not alone in the house. She was staying with her two children, aged 10 and 13, as well as a house help identified as Sharif Lwantale, a 20-year-old male. The presence of children in the home has made the incident even more painful for the community to process.

Police say that Tumwebaze had returned home earlier that night at about 10:00 p.m. She came back with her children, and nothing unusual was reported at that time. After settling in, the house help reportedly locked the house, as was the normal routine.
Investigators believe that the attacker may have gained access to the home after the house help opened the gate. This detail has raised many questions about how the suspect approached the home and what may have prompted the opening of the gate at such a late hour.
What followed was a violent confrontation that ended in tragedy. Police allege that Tumwebaze was strangled during the attack, though full forensic details are still being worked on as part of the investigation.
After the assault, the suspect is said to have threatened or ordered the house help to hand over the keys to the main door. This suggests that the attacker was determined to escape quickly and avoid being trapped inside the house.
The suspect then reportedly fled the scene, disappearing into the night. During the escape, the attacker allegedly carried away a laptop bag belonging to the deceased. Police say the exact items inside the bag are still being identified.
This detail has led investigators to consider whether the motive could have involved robbery, though they have not ruled out other possibilities. Police have emphasized that it is still too early to draw final conclusions.
Pamela Tumwebaze was approximately 46 years old at the time of her death. She was Munyankole by tribe and widely known as a dedicated education administrator who worked closely with students at UCU.
Colleagues describe her as committed, caring, and deeply involved in student welfare. Her role as Director of Students’ Affairs placed her at the heart of university life, making her loss especially heavy for the UCU community.

Students and staff at the university have expressed shock and grief, with many struggling to come to terms with the sudden and violent nature of her death. Messages of condolence have continued to pour in from different parts of the country.
The fact that the attack happened in her own home has also sparked fear and concern among residents of Seeta and surrounding areas. Many are questioning safety and security, especially during late-night hours.
Police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing and active. Detectives are working to piece together events before, during, and after the attack, using statements from those present and evidence collected at the scene.
Authorities are also working to identify and arrest the suspect involved. They have appealed to the public to remain calm and to share any information that could help bring the perpetrator to justice.
As the investigation continues, many unanswered questions remain. Who was the attacker? Why was Pamela Tumwebaze targeted? And was this a planned act or a crime of opportunity?
For now, the nation mourns a life lost too soon. Pamela Tumwebaze’s death has left a painful gap in her family, her workplace, and the wider education community, as all await justice and clarity in the days ahead.
