Singer and social commentator Ziza Bafana has criticised the government’s methods of enforcing cleanliness campaigns, urging authorities to prioritise public services over harsh crackdowns.
Bafana spoke out following the reported death of a boda boda rider in Ndejje during an operation linked to cleanliness enforcement.“We are not young for you to cane us and kill us because of cleaning,” Bafana said.
The musician argued that Ugandans pay taxes and that government should use part of the revenue to provide effective waste collection, sanitation facilities and proper urban management.
He called for citizens to be educated and supported to keep their communities clean rather than subjected to excessive force, stressing that maintaining a clean Uganda should be a shared responsibility between authorities and the public.Bafana’s remarks have reignited debate over the balance between enforcing sanitation standards and protecting citizens’ rights during city and community operations.
