Buganda Road Magistrate Court has granted non-cash bail to Praise Aloikin Opoloje, a human rights defender known for her criticism of Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF).
Opoloje was arrested after recording a video in which she attacked Gen. Muhoozi, describing him as “rotten garbage” and declaring that she could not be ruled by someone she viewed in that way.
Her remarks attracted attention because of their direct criticism of the military chief, who is also the son of President Yoweri Museveni. The video reportedly formed part of the events leading to her arrest.
Following her arrest, Opoloje was taken to court, where she faced charges related to the use of a SIM card registered in her mother’s name. Prosecutors allege that this was contrary to the law.

The court has now granted her non-cash bail, allowing her to be released without depositing money as a condition of her temporary freedom. The case is expected to proceed through the court process.
Opoloje is described by her supporters as a fearless human rights defender who is willing to speak openly about political and military leaders, even when her views are controversial. Her arrest has also drawn attention to the challenges faced by government critics and activists who use social media to express their opinions about powerful public figures.
However, the charges against Opoloje remain allegations, and the court will determine the case through the legal process. Her release on bail does not amount to a finding of guilt or innocence.
