Former State Minister for Finance in charge of Investment and Privatisation Evelyn Anite has revealed that she never intended to become a politician, saying her original dream was simply to become popular.
Speaking on the YouTube programme Dialogue With Emukule, Anite reflected on her political journey, the opportunities she gained and the challenges she faced during her time in government.
Anite said her admiration for President Yoweri Museveni began in 1996 when her family supported him. She insisted that being dropped from Cabinet has not changed her loyalty to the President.
“I once told him I will be the last to walk away from you even if you walked away from me,” Anite said, describing her long-standing commitment to Museveni.

However, she revealed that politics also exposed her to hostility and threats, claiming that some people threatened to burn down her house and hotel, while her name repeatedly appeared on death lists.
“Politics made me so many enemies,” she said, reflecting on the personal cost of her political career.
Anite also credited Museveni with supporting her education, saying she returned to school and eventually earned a master’s degree in business at Harvard University in the United States. She said the President paid her tuition fees.
The former minister added that her government experience helped her learn valuable business skills through interactions with investors and entrepreneurs. She now says she is concentrating on her private ventures and has no immediate plans to return to politics. “I am enjoying my life out of politics. I no longer stress like I used to,” she said.
