Opposition leader and National Unity Platform president Bobi Wine has strongly criticized Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba following the reported arrest and detention of lawyer and former Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago.
The outspoken opposition leader accused Muhoozi of abusing his position and tarnishing the image of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF). Bobi Wine argued that Lukwago, a senior lawyer and opposition figure, was simply carrying out his professional duties and should not have been subjected to arrest.
In a strongly worded statement shared on social media, Bobi Wine described Muhoozi’s actions as an embarrassment to the UPDF and warned that history would judge leaders based on how they exercised power and treated political opponents.
“Your actions are such an embarrassment to the UPDF,” Bobi Wine said, adding that if such conduct continues, even Muhoozi’s own children may one day struggle to defend his legacy.
The remarks have sparked intense debate among Ugandans, with supporters praising Bobi Wine for speaking out against what they view as abuse of power, while critics argue that his comments were overly personal.
The controversy comes amid growing public concern over Lukwago’s reported arrest, with legal groups and opposition leaders demanding transparency and respect for due process. As the political storm continues, the exchange has further highlighted the deepening tensions between opposition leaders and senior government officials.
