Thousands of teachers across Uganda have received a major boost after the Ministry of Education and Sports announced a fresh recruitment exercise aimed at filling dozens of vacancies in government-aided primary schools under Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA).
The recruitment drive, being conducted through the Education Service Commission (ESC), is expected to strengthen staffing levels in Kampala schools while creating new employment opportunities for qualified teachers seeking government jobs.
According to the Ministry, a total of 92 vacancies have been advertised under two separate recruitment notices, targeting both new applicants entering the profession and experienced education officers already serving within the KCCA education system.
The announcement has been particularly welcomed by arts teachers and other education professionals who have been eagerly waiting for government recruitment opportunities amid increasing competition for teaching positions across the country.
Education officials say the vacancies form part of a broader effort to improve education service delivery, reduce staffing gaps, and enhance learning outcomes in government-aided schools throughout the capital city.
Under External Advert No. 1 of 2026, the Education Service Commission is seeking to recruit 57 Education Assistants at Salary Scale U7, creating one of the largest opportunities for classroom teachers in recent months.

The positions are open to qualified Ugandans who possess a Grade III Teaching Certificate, although candidates with a Diploma in Primary Education will enjoy an added advantage during the recruitment process.
Applicants must also be officially registered with the Ministry of Education and Sports and be appearing on the government payroll of a district local government. In addition, new entrants must be below the age of 50 years.
Officials explained that the recruitment exercise seeks to attract competent teachers who can contribute to improving educational standards and strengthening foundational learning among primary school pupils.
Beyond classroom teaching positions, the ministry has also announced numerous leadership and management opportunities under Internal Advert No. 1 of 2026, targeting serving education officers within KCCA schools.
The internal recruitment exercise includes eight positions for Headteachers at Salary Scale U4. These positions require applicants to possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Primary Education, registration as graduate teachers, and at least twelve years of teaching experience.
Candidates seeking appointment as Headteachers must also demonstrate leadership experience, including at least three years of service as substantive Deputy Headteachers within the education system.
The ministry has further advertised one vacancy for Deputy Headteacher at Salary Scale U5. Interested candidates must hold a Diploma in Primary Education and possess a minimum of nine years of teaching experience.
In addition, twenty-two positions have been announced for Senior Education Assistants under Salary Scale U6. Applicants must possess a Grade III Teaching Certificate and have served as Education Assistants for at least six years.

The Education Service Commission has also opened four non-teaching positions for Officers in Education Services based at KCCA headquarters. These positions require applicants to possess university qualifications in education and relevant professional registration.
Government officials have strongly encouraged women and persons with disabilities to apply for the advertised positions as part of efforts to promote inclusiveness and equal opportunities within the education sector.
The commission has emphasized that all applications must be submitted electronically through its official e-recruitment platform. No physical applications will be accepted, a move intended to improve transparency and efficiency in the recruitment process.
Applicants are required to create accounts on the recruitment portal, upload scanned academic documents, passport photographs, national identification documents, and recommendation forms before completing their submissions.
Education authorities have set June 24, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. as the deadline for applications. Candidates are advised to complete the process early to avoid technical challenges that often arise close to closing dates.
The recruitment exercise comes as government intensifies efforts to strengthen Uganda’s education sector. In a related development, the Ministry of Education recently confirmed 386 teachers and 150 acting secondary school headteachers onto the government payroll, signaling continued commitment to improving staffing, career progression, and service delivery within the country’s education system.
