Rebecca Kadaga, Uganda’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs, has called on the residents of Bugweri and Iganga districts to fully back President Museveni and all National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidates in the upcoming 2026 general elections. Kadaga made the plea during a series of mobilization rallies in the Busoga region as part of preparations for President Museveni’s visit next week.
Addressing crowds at the Busesa Town Council headquarters in Bugweri, Kadaga reminded the public of the tangible development brought by the NRM government to the region, urging them not to be swayed by opposition figures. She emphasized that while opposition parties often make lofty promises during campaigns, it is the NRM that has consistently delivered real progress.
“Every election cycle, the opposition comes with empty pledges, but it is the NRM that has consistently brought change and development to Bugweri. We must stay true to our commitment and vote for President Museveni and all NRM flag bearers in the upcoming elections,” she stated.
Kadaga also called for unity among the people of Busoga, despite past differences. Acknowledging the disappointment felt by many over internal party issues, particularly the results of the Central Executive Committee elections, she urged everyone to put aside their grievances and work together for the greater good of the region.
“I understand the pain of the recent internal party elections, especially regarding the position of National Vice Chairperson (Female). But we must come together for the sake of our region’s progress and unity. Let us work towards a common goal and ensure that the NRM continues to thrive,” Kadaga said.
Kadaga expressed frustration at the past electoral outcomes in the region, where promises of support had not always been reflected in voting patterns. She urged the crowd to follow through with their pledges and vote with conviction.
“Year after year, I come to this region and hear promises of support for the NRM, but once the elections come, things change. This time, let us stand firm in our commitment and deliver on our promises,” she urged the crowd, who responded with enthusiastic cheers.
In a subtle critique of the current Member of Parliament for Bugweri County, Kadaga pointed out that despite serving together in Parliament, she had not been involved in any development initiatives in the district. She encouraged voters to choose leaders who are willing to collaborate with the government to bring real benefits to their communities.
Kadaga also promised to advocate for key infrastructure projects in Bugweri, including the construction of a new district headquarters, upgrading Busesa Health Centre IV to a district hospital, expanding electricity access, and establishing an industrial park to boost local employment.
“Let’s work together to secure a piece of land for an industrial park that will create jobs and stimulate economic growth in Bugweri. This is a priority, and I will make sure it is pursued with urgency,” Kadaga assured the crowd.
She later continued her tour in Iganga District, where she addressed another rally at Magogo Primary School. There, she reiterated her call for unity and support for the NRM, urging voters to back all NRM candidates to continue benefiting from government programs and initiatives.
President Museveni is scheduled to visit the Busoga region starting November 14 as part of a nationwide mobilization campaign ahead of the 2026 elections, aiming to strengthen grassroots support for the NRM across the country.
