The world is mourning the passing of Tooro King Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, who made history by becoming one of the youngest kings in modern times.
Born on April 16, 1992, Oyo ascended to the Tooro throne in 1995 after the death of his father, Omukama Patrick David Matthew Kaboyo Olimi II.
On September 12, 1995, the three-year-old prince was officially crowned as the Omukama of Tooro, attracting global attention due to his young age.
Because he was too young to rule independently, a council of regents guided the kingdom until he matured. As he grew older, King Oyo gradually took on royal duties and officially began exercising full responsibilities at the age of 18 in 2010.
For more than three decades, he became a symbol of Tooro’s culture, heritage and unity, supporting initiatives in education, youth empowerment and development.
His death at the age of 34 has left Tooro, Uganda and many around the world mourning a monarch whose journey from a child king to a cultural leader remains one of the most remarkable stories in African history.
May the soul of Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV rest in eternal peace.
