Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has claimed that there are only four people in Uganda he cannot arrest, naming President Yoweri Museveni, First Lady Janet Museveni, Gen Salim Saleh and Maama Jovia.
“The only four people I can’t arrest in Uganda are Museveni, Maama Janet, Afande Saleh and Maama Jovia. The rest I can. We will start with the most corrupt,” Gen Muhoozi said. His remarks have sparked debate about corruption, accountability and the role of security institutions in dealing with individuals accused of wrongdoing.
Gen Muhoozi did not name those he intends to target or provide details of specific corruption cases, but said the campaign would begin with what he described as the “most corrupt.”The statement has also renewed questions about the powers of security leaders and the role of established law-enforcement and judicial institutions in handling arrests and corruption cases. The remarks come amid continued public calls for tougher action against officials accused of corruption and misuse of public resources.
