Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has declared the Presidential Advisory Committee on Exports and Industrial Development (PACEID) an illegal organisation and warned that its members accused of corruption will be arrested immediately.
In posts on his official X account on August 25, 2026, Muhoozi said authorities would arrest all PACEID members involved in corruption.
“PACEID is an illegal organisation. We shall start arresting its members immediately,” he stated.
The army chief later claimed that one person had already been arrested, although he did not identify the suspect or provide details of the allegations.
Muhoozi also warned radio and television stations against giving PACEID members airtime.
“Radios and TVs that allow members of the outlawed PACEID to talk will face severe consequences,” he wrote.
The declaration has drawn attention because PACEID is headed by businessman and presidential adviser Odrek Rwabwogo, President Yoweri Museveni’s son-in-law. The organisation has been involved in promoting exports, industrialisation and private-sector development.
Muhoozi did not name the individuals accused of corruption or provide evidence supporting his claims.
The UPDF chief also separately issued a warning to critics of his Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), saying those who question its ideology were “playing with death.”
The statements are expected to fuel further debate over PACEID, accountability and the growing political role of organisations associated with Uganda’s leadership.
