Young Mulo and Mugisha John Bosco have been sentenced to 80 years in prison for the 2019 murder of boda boda rider Derrick Mulindwa in Mengo, Kampala.
Mulindwa was allegedly attacked at around 4am on June 30, 2019, in Kakyeka, Mengo, where he was reportedly strangled during the incident.
The case attracted significant attention after CCTV footage captured the events surrounding the murder, helping investigators identify the suspects.
Mugisha was later arrested from a hideout in Nsiike I, Ndeeba, following information obtained by security authorities. During the trial, he reportedly admitted that he and Young Mulo were involved in Mulindwa’s killing.
The court relied on the evidence presented during the trial, including the CCTV footage and other evidence linking the two men to the crime.
The lengthy sentence has brought an end to years of legal proceedings and offered some measure of justice to Mulindwa’s family and fellow boda boda riders.
The case has also highlighted the security risks faced by boda boda riders, particularly those working late-night and early-morning hours.
Reports indicate that the latest 80-year sentence was added to an earlier 70-year sentence, bringing the convicts’ total prison term to 150 years.
The case further demonstrates the growing importance of CCTV surveillance in investigating serious crimes and bringing suspects to justice.
