Bukedea County MP David Beecham Okwere has dismissed circulating claims that former Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among is critically ill and unable to move.
He said he recently visited her at her Nakasero residence and found her able to move within her compound, though with some physical limitations and visible swelling in her feet. However, he stressed that she is not immobile as claimed in some reports.
Okwere noted that her movement is currently mostly confined to her home, and while she has faced health challenges—reportedly beginning during her political campaigns—he cautioned against speculation or unverified medical conclusions.
He also avoided confirming claims about possible blood clots or allegations of house arrest, saying only medical professionals and official authorities could provide accurate clarification.
Other political figures have acknowledged that Among has experienced health concerns, but no official statement has been issued detailing her condition or current status.
The matter continues to draw public attention amid growing calls for clearer official communication.
