PLU Secretary General and Kasambya County MP David Kabanda has delivered his most detailed account yet of the events that led to the dramatic collapse of his relationship with former Speaker Anita Among, insisting that his loyalty to Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba could never be sacrificed for short-term political alliances.
Speaking during an extensive interview, Kabanda reflected on years of political interactions and relationships within the ruling establishment, arguing that his connection with Gen Muhoozi predates his parliamentary career by many years and was built on trust, friendship and political cooperation long before he entered elective politics.
According to Kabanda, one of the defining moments in his fallout with Anita Among came when he was allegedly pressured to distance himself from Gen Muhoozi at a time when sections of the political class believed the First Son’s influence had diminished within the ruling movement.
Kabanda maintained that he firmly rejected such pressure, insisting that abandoning a longtime ally for political convenience would have amounted to betrayal. He argued that his association with Gen Muhoozi dates back to 2014, while his friendship with Anita Among only began after he entered Parliament in 2021.
“I assured him I wasn’t going to denounce or distance myself from Gen MK whom I had known for such a long time simply because of Anita Among whom I had only known after becoming an MP in 2021,” Kabanda said, describing the principle of loyalty as central to his political life.
The Kasambya legislator further alleged that there was a period when some influential figures within the ruling establishment underestimated Gen Muhoozi’s political future and doubted his ability to emerge as a significant force in national affairs.

He claimed that many individuals built their political calculations around assumptions that relations between President Yoweri Museveni and his son had deteriorated, leading some politicians to avoid being publicly associated with Gen Muhoozi.
Kabanda recounted incidents in which he says certain leaders became uncomfortable whenever Gen Muhoozi’s name arose in political discussions, believing that proximity to him could damage rather than strengthen their political fortunes.
The PLU Secretary General also revealed that he received private warnings from some political actors who allegedly advised him to keep his distance from Gen Muhoozi following changes in military leadership positions, cautioning that supporting him could attract political consequences.
Despite those warnings, Kabanda said he remained publicly supportive and continued expressing solidarity with Gen Muhoozi through public statements and social media platforms, arguing that true loyalty is tested during difficult moments rather than periods of political comfort.
Turning his attention to Anita Among, Kabanda accused the former Speaker of allegedly attempting to create misunderstandings between Gen Muhoozi and President Museveni through claims that he says were false and politically motivated.
He specifically dismissed allegations that he had sought financial facilitation on behalf of Gen Muhoozi in exchange for political support, insisting that such claims were entirely fabricated and intended to damage both his reputation and that of the PLU chairman.
Kabanda said he confronted Anita Among over the allegations and claimed that subsequent communications between them revealed attempts at reconciliation, though he maintained that the damage caused by the accusations had already irreparably strained their relationship.
He further alleged that political tensions escalated after disagreements surrounding the leadership of Parliament, particularly during the period when Jacob Oboth-Oboth emerged as a leading figure for the speakership position.
According to Kabanda, any efforts to undermine leaders perceived to enjoy the support of Gen Muhoozi were interpreted as direct challenges to the authority and political influence of the PLU chairman, something he says could not be ignored.

The outspoken legislator also rejected allegations that he had infiltrated Anita Among’s political circle for personal gain, insisting that many of their interactions were initiated by the former Speaker herself and not by him.
Kabanda went on to defend himself against accusations of political betrayal, arguing that throughout his career he has consistently supported causes and individuals he believed were aligned with the long-term interests of the ruling movement and national leadership.
In one of his strongest remarks, he described Anita Among as a politician whose relationships with former allies had frequently ended in conflict, citing several prominent political figures whom he claimed had previously supported her rise before later falling out with her.
He contrasted that record with what he described as his own commitment to loyalty, emphasizing that he would never abandon Gen Muhoozi, whom he considers both a longtime friend and a key figure in his political journey.
Kabanda concluded by reaffirming his admiration for Gen Muhoozi’s leadership qualities, describing him as a humble listener, a loyal friend and a leader who values honesty.
He insisted that his political choices have always been guided by conviction rather than convenience and that his support for the PLU chairman remains unwavering despite the controversies and conflicts that have emerged in recent years.
