The message, posted on Facebook, was a congratulatory note following Becky’s introduction ceremony, or Kwanjula, which took place on 9th December 2025 in Masaka.
The ceremony was a glamorous affair attended by various prominent figures, but what truly captured the attention of many was Amiri’s unexpected show of support for his ex-lover. Becky, who has a history with Amiri and shares children with him, introduced her new fiancé, Ssekajja Abdul, to her parents in a joyous celebration. In his post, Amiri wrote: “My Friend Rebecca, I dearly congratulate you upon reaching this special day as God had planned it for you. Wishing you and your husband a beautiful journey ahead filled with love, growth, and happiness. Truly happy for you both. Translation aside, his use of heartfelt words such as “mungu atusobozese” (meaning “may God bless us all”) and “mbagaliza birungi” (meaning “I wish you all the best”) left many astonished. What particularly shocked netizens was that Ssekajja Abdul, Becky’s new fiancé, was none other than Amiri’s former best friend.
This turn of events has led to mixed reactions online. While some admire Amiri’s maturity and the grace with which he handled the situation, others are bewildered by the irony of the relationship dynamic. It’s rare for ex-lovers, especially those with children together, to publicly express support for each other in such a personal way, especially when the new partner is a former close friend.
