Kampala-based fintech MAM Telecom Ltd has been selected for the prestigious EquityPilot acceleration program by FasterCapital, a Dubai-headquartered startup accelerator. The partnership is set to support MAM Telecom in raising a $5 million seed round to launch East Africa’s first 24/7 digital float liquidity platform.
Uganda’s mobile money ecosystem processes over UGX 50 trillion annually, yet thousands of agents lose revenue daily because they run out of float, particularly during nights, weekends, and in rural areas. Traditional banks and payment providers have struggled to provide instant liquidity outside standard business hours.
MAM Telecom is addressing this critical gap by developing a fully licensed digital liquidity infrastructure. The platform will allow agents, merchants, SACCOs, and institutions to access instant mobile money float, emergency top-ups, and real-time dashboards with API integrations for MTN, Airtel, and partner banks.
Founder and CEO Milon Ahabwe Mutebile emphasized the urgency of the solution, saying, “Agents should never turn away customers because they have no float at 8 PM or on a Sunday. With FasterCapital’s backing, we will make liquidity instant, unlimited, and available to every agent in Uganda starting in 2026.”
The EquityPilot program offers MAM Telecom dedicated support in fundraising, investor introductions, pitch refinement, and due diligence structuring. Participating startups also benefit from global media exposure, positioning MAM Telecom to attract strategic partners and investors across the region.
FasterCapital CEO Hesham Zreik praised the company’s mission, noting that MAM Telecom tackles one of the largest hidden frictions in African digital payments. “Their model is highly scalable and deeply needed. We are excited to help them raise capital and grow across the region,” he said.
The $5 million seed round will fund regulatory licensing, technology development, initial float reserves, and team expansion. The rollout will begin in Kampala and extend to three rural districts, ensuring that liquidity reaches agents in underserved areas where financial access has traditionally been limited.
MAM Telecom’s initiative marks a significant leap toward real-time, always-on digital financial services in East Africa. By bridging the liquidity gap for mobile money agents, the company is poised to reshape the way millions of Ugandans send and receive money, creating more inclusive, seamless financial ecosystems.
