Yesterday, the Director of Police, AIGP Tom Magambo, delivered a compelling lecture to 334 officers enrolled in a leadership course at the Institute of Security and Intelligence Studies, shedding light on the deep interplay between leadership, crime prevention, and socio-economic progress.
Addressing the participants, AIGP Magambo emphasized that modern law enforcement leadership extends far beyond managing teams. He argued that effective officers must grasp the social and economic forces shaping criminal activity, and adopt strategies that promote safety while fostering sustainable community development.
The lecture underscored the necessity of blending intelligence-led policing with social awareness. Officers were urged to consider the broader implications of their decisions on public trust, community cohesion, and societal well-being, transforming policing into a proactive tool for positive change.
AIGP Magambo encouraged the officers to cultivate leadership skills that are adaptive, ethical, and data-driven, equipping them to respond to emerging security challenges while simultaneously supporting initiatives that enhance economic growth and social stability.
The session formed part of the institute’s comprehensive leadership curriculum, designed to prepare police officers for senior roles requiring not only operational expertise but also strategic thinking and community engagement.
Attendees described the lecture as highly insightful, offering practical guidance on modern policing approaches and highlighting their potential role in shaping the social and economic landscape of Uganda.
Concluding the session, AIGP Magambo stressed that the police must lead by example, demonstrating integrity, accountability, and foresight in all operations. He emphasized that true leadership in security is measured not merely by authority but by the positive impact officers have on national development.
The event reinforced the institute’s mission to develop security leaders capable of navigating complex environments while contributing meaningfully to Uganda’s socio-economic transformation, bridging the gap between law enforcement and national progress.
