Kampala is set to welcome one of the country’s biggest end-of-year celebrations as the Central Broadcasting Service (CBS), owned by the Buganda Kingdom, officially launched the 2025 edition of its annual Enkuuka festival. This year’s event, themed “Enkuuka Bwaguuga,” will take place on December 31 at the Buganda Royal Palace in Mengo.
Organizers are projecting a record turnout of at least 200,000 attendees, promising a vibrant celebration of culture, music, and community spirit. CBS Managing Director Michael Kawooya Mwebe described the festival as a special edition designed to deliver memorable experiences for all revellers.
“Expect nothing but an extraordinary celebration this year,” Kawooya said. “We have expanded the lineup with activities including bike racing, wrestling, live music, animal viewing, and exciting giveaways ranging from land and motorcycles to cars.”
In addition to entertainment, CBS and its partners plan to extend the festival’s impact through long-term initiatives aimed at empowering young people and women in Buganda. The programs will include low-interest loans, financial literacy training, and mentorship opportunities, running for three years with a possibility of extension.
MTN Uganda, the festival’s prime sponsor, unveiled special offers to encourage participation. Augustine Lure revealed a discounted communication bundle, alongside reduced ticket prices for customers purchasing via MTN MoMo. “We are confident that these offers will help us reach the 200,000-reveller target,” he said.
Other partners, including Movit, have contributed significantly, with Shs 342 million pledged to support the event. Their involvement underscores the growing collaboration between private enterprises and cultural initiatives in Uganda.
Government authorities have also pledged heightened security to ensure the safety of all attendees. Ariho Moses, Deputy RCC for Rubaga Division, assured the public that both people and property would be protected, with certain roads closed on the day to allow smooth movement and crowd management.
Celebrated for blending tradition, music, and community engagement, the Enkuuka festival continues to be one of Buganda’s most anticipated cultural events, offering Ugandans a spectacular way to welcome the new year while highlighting the kingdom’s rich heritage.
