In what appears to be a landslide victory in the making, Najja Nasif, the National Unity Platform (NUP) flagbearer and one of the party’s most influential grassroots mobilizers, is commanding the Wakiso District LC5 chairperson race with an impressive 78% lead, according to early poll results and local survey data.
Najja’s popularity across Wakiso — Uganda’s most populous district — has surged in recent months, thanks to his relentless community outreach, strong mobilization networks, and his reputation as a disciplined and transparent leader within NUP’s structure. The charismatic politician has built his campaign on a message of integrity, social justice, and service delivery, which has strongly resonated with the district’s urban and peri-urban voters.
His two main challengers, Flavia Nakafeero of the Democratic Front (DF) and Engineer Ian Kyeyune of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), have struggled to match his momentum. Nakafeero’s campaign, while backed by a small but vocal section of DF loyalists, has been overshadowed by NUP’s massive presence in Wakiso. Meanwhile, Kyeyune, a former district chairperson and veteran NRM mobilizer, is facing strong public backlash over allegations of land grabbing and abuse of office — accusations that have haunted his political career for years.
Residents across key areas such as Nansana, Kasangati, Entebbe, and Namayumba have expressed disillusionment with the NRM’s performance in local governance, citing persistent issues such as poor road infrastructure, corruption in land transactions, and inadequate public health facilities. Many have described Najja Nasif as the “people’s candidate” who understands the daily struggles of ordinary citizens and is ready to restore accountability to the district leadership.
“Najja has been with us in every situation — during floods, evictions, and youth unemployment drives. He is not just talking politics; he is solving problems,” said a resident of Kira Municipality. “We are tired of leaders who only show up during campaigns.”
The race for Wakiso LC5 chairpersonship is being closely watched nationwide, as the district plays a significant political role in Uganda’s general elections due to its massive voter population and proximity to Kampala. Analysts believe that a decisive win for NUP in Wakiso would further solidify the party’s grip on the central region and send a strong signal to the ruling establishment ahead of the 2026 general elections.
Najja Nasif has pledged to prioritize youth empowerment, fight corruption in the land sector, and enhance social services across the district once elected. He has also promised to work closely with all political and religious leaders to ensure inclusivity and transparency in governance.
As campaigns continues in some areas, early trends suggest that the NUP candidate’s dominance is unlikely to be reversed. If confirmed, Najja Nasif’s victory would mark another major milestone for the National Unity Platform — reaffirming its status as the dominant political force in Uganda’s central region and cementing Nasif’s reputation as one of the party’s most formidable local leaders.
At 78%, Najja Nasif’s lead reflects not just a political win but a strong statement from the people of Wakiso — a demand for change, accountability, and leadership that truly serves.
