President Yoweri Museveni has assured Obongi residents that the government is in the procurement stage to extend the national power grid to the district. Speaking at a large campaign rally on Friday, Museveni, also the NRM presidential flagbearer, confirmed that funding for the project has been secured from the World Bank.
The President also addressed the state of regional infrastructure, acknowledging some delays in roadworks but emphasizing that improvements are ongoing. He called on road managers to ensure murram roads are well-maintained for smoother travel.
“Despite challenges, including regional conflicts, the NRM government has brought peace to Uganda, and now it is time for people to use this peace to prosper,” Museveni told the crowd.
He reiterated the NRM’s commitment to political unity, stating, “We don’t care about your tribe, religion, or background. This is how we have united Ugandans and why we can work together for the country’s progress.”
Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, speaking to journalists after the rally, confirmed that electricity would soon reach Obongi, noting that the district, along with Buvuma, is among the last areas to be connected to the national grid.
“We have already secured funds from the World Bank, and the procurement process is ongoing. Soon, Obongi and other parts of West Nile will have electricity,” Nabbanja said.
She praised the region’s strong support for NRM, noting, “West Nile is fully behind President Museveni. The large crowds today show that NRM will win in this area.”
Nabbanja expressed confidence in a decisive victory for the party, adding, “We expect over 80% of the vote from West Nile, and any remaining gaps will soon be addressed.”
