In response, police launched an immediate investigation, confirming ASP Nsiima’s involvement. He has been arrested and is currently in custody.
“The officer has been apprehended and detained in police custody,” the statement read. “He will be brought to account once investigations are complete.”
Authorities have contacted the victim and eyewitnesses to record statements and provide support. Police emphasized that such acts of violence will not be tolerated and reiterated the importance of professionalism, respect, and integrity among officers.
“This behaviour contravenes our disciplinary code and will be addressed accordingly,” police said, condemning the attack.
The incident has reignited discussions on police accountability, with civil rights activists urging the authorities to ensure the victim receives medical care and justice. Social media users praised the swift action, noting it reflects a commitment to internal discipline, while others demanded transparency to prevent future abuses.
The Uganda Police Force has assured the public that no officer is above the law, and both criminal and disciplinary measures will follow once investigations conclude. Citizens now await the outcome of this high-profile case, which has tested the force’s credibility.
