Hon. Muhammad Nsereko, a former close ally of Democratic Front (DF) leader Mathias Mpuuga, has publicly announced that he is severing ties with Mpuuga, accusing him of dishonesty and betrayal.
Speaking to the media, Nsereko said the National Unity Platform (NUP) was justified in parting ways with Mpuuga. “The man has no truth in him. I am done with him,” he said, adding that Mpuuga would be “lucky” to receive a call from him in the future.
Nsereko recounted that when he first met Mpuuga, the DF leader promised to support his presidential ambitions. “I told him I was running, and he said we would support me,” Nsereko explained. However, Mpuuga recently reversed his stance, stating that the Democratic Front would not back any candidate in the race. “His words surprised me. It was a complete betrayal,” Nsereko said.
The fallout underscores growing tensions within Uganda’s opposition parties and highlights the fragile nature of political alliances. Analysts suggest that Nsereko’s departure could weaken the Democratic Front while solidifying his position within NUP and closer ties to Bobi Wine, who had previously distanced himself from Mpuuga.
Observers note that this split sends a clear warning about the importance of honesty and commitment in political partnerships. With the elections approaching, Nsereko’s public break could influence party alliances, campaign strategies, and voter perceptions, emphasizing that trust is a critical currency in Uganda’s political landscape.
